Original watercolor painting, 'Heron and Limpkin in the Amazon', by Lynn Cyrus / Cascade Colors. I used various brush and water techniques to create this impression of the backwater marshes and bogs of the interior Amazon rainforest. I have traveled to Ecuador and visited two sections of this amazing, diverse ecosystem. Many large rivers feed the Amazon, and smaller streams feed those rivers, until you get far into the interior, where bogs, marshes, and inland lakes feed those small streams. In all of these backwater, wet areas, one can see many bird species, including various heron species, as well as the limpkin. I have featured a heron and limpkin in this impressionistic piece. Bright yellow, orange, red, pink, and purple tones fill the water and form impressions of vegetation and different textures.
