Description
Pressed plants, Sloane Collection. Specimens of flowers and leaves forming part of the collection of the English physician Hans Sloane (1660-1753). The plants have been preserved by pressing. The specimens include 'Viola violacea Makino', 'Oxalis corniculata' and 'Trachelospermum asiaticum Nakai'. Sloane built up a huge collection of pressed plants filling many volumes. These specimens are on page 29 of volume 211. Sloane bequeathed his collections of plants and other objects to the nation, and they formed the basis of the British Museum. The plant collections are housed at the Natural History Museum, London, UK.
